Ohio Zoos Get Serious About Green Energy, Boast Country's Largest Solar Canopy
Taking the lead in the project is Athens-based Third Sun Solar, one of the state's fastest-growing solar firms. Founded in 2000 by the aptly named Geoff and Michelle Greenfield and operating out of the Innovation Center at Ohio University, the company has become regional leader in implementing solar technology.

Third Sun Solar To Make Array for Columbus Zoo
Third Sun Solar of Athens has been selected by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium to develop a solar energy system to meet the zoo's energy needs. The solar company beat out both regional and national companies for the project that is slated to be one of the largest zoo installations in the United States.
Third Sun Solar Makes the Inc. 5000 for the Third Year in a Row
For the third year in a row Third Sun Solar, located in Ohio University's own Innovation Center, has made the Inc. Top Companies List. Third Sun is currently ranked number 623 on this list which is a big leap forward from its 2009 spot at 742.
State Solar Energy Incentives Disappear
"We've outfitted six or eight homes with new solar arrays this year compared to 20 in previous years," said Third Sun Solar CEO Michelle Greenfield. She's worked to bring solar energy to homes in the Buckeye state for the past decade, but said solar projects on individual homes are slumping this year.

Third Sun Solar grows with commercial demand for alternative energy
In the 1990s, Geoff and Michelle Greenfield decided to build a new home off the electric grid outside of Athens. To accomplish that goal, Geoff Greenfield designed and built a number of systems to power the Greenfield's new home -- including a photovoltaic solar array. Today, Geoff and Michelle Greenfield are president and CEO, respectively, of Third Sun Solar, an Athens-based solar integrator that has made the Inc. 500 two years in a row.
