All studies by faculty, students or staff that involve human subjects are considered human subjects research by the federal government. This includes everything from clinical trials to surveys, interviews, and observation. Any research -- including masters and doctoral projects -- that calls for participation by people must be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) before the project can begin. All researchers who conduct human subjects research must complete required CITI training (see link below).

Conflict of Interest
All Ohio University faculty and employees must complete a conflict of interest form before receiving grants from an external funding source. The form, which must be completed annually, helps the university ensure that all research activities are in compliance with federal, state and university policies.
The federal government recently released significant changes to the research conflict of interest regulations. Training sessions, provided upon request will provide more information about these and how they might impact you. Open to students, faculty and staff. To schedule a session, please contact Jo Ellen Sherow in the Office of Research Compliance, email@example.com, 740-597-1267.
Note that some federal grant programs, in particular the National Institutes of Health, may require completion of conflict of interest disclosures prior to SUBMISSION of grants. Conflict of Interest training is required for these external funding opportunities and is available through the CITI training site. Here to access the OU Policy 19.058 on Conflict of Interest
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
The Office of Research Compliance also monitors responsible conduct in research matters. Note that some federal grant programs, in particular the National Science Foundation, require RCR training. RCR training is available through the CITI training site.
