I. Internal Sources

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity oversees several Internal Award program to support the research, scholarship and creative activity of faculty, staff and students.

NEW! Air Travel Support Program

Funds are available to support trips to the Washington DC area (including Dulles, BWI, but not Reagan International) on the University's King Air plane.  Activities that are allowable under this program include meetings with sponsors or potential collaborators.

Ohio University Research Committee (OURC)

Competitive awards of up to $8,000 provide seed money for faculty and staff to pursue new research and creative activity projects.  Priority is for new faculty and staff or established faculty pursuing projects that are a clear departure from previous research foci.  Two review cycles in fall and spring.

Deadlines:  Thursday Oct. 4 2012, 4:00 pm and Thursday Jan. 31 2013, 4:00 pm

Small awards of up to $500 for research, scholarship, and creative activity are available upon application and approval by the current OURC Chair.

Baker Fund Awards Committee

Competitive awards of up to $12,000 to faculty and staff support research, scholarship, and creative activity. The Committee seeks to support projects which are near completion and can hopefully be brought to full completion with the assistance of an award.  Two review cycles in fall and spring.

Student Enhancement Awards

Competitive awards to support undergraduate, graduate, and medical student research, scholarship, and creative activities. Awards of up to $6,000 support research and travel to attend a professional meeting to present results. One review cycle in spring.

CRSCA Discretionary Fund (Funds expended for FY13, can accept requests for FY14)

Small awards of up to $500 to fund unique opportunities or emergencies for undergraduate, graduate and medical student research, scholarship, and creative activity are available upon application and approval by the current CRSCA Chair.

Ohio University Undergraduate Conference Travel Fund (Funds expended for FY13, can accept requests for FY14)

Small awards of up to $500 for travel assistance for undergraduate students presenting their work at conference and other venues for presentation.

1804 Fund

The Fund was established by the Ohio University Foundation to support the University's core mission of maintaining, strengthening, and enhancing a learning-centered community. The Fund promotes collaboration among units. The Fund focuses its support through two fund categories:

  • Undergraduate Learning- Curricular innovations, programs and activities that enhance the undergraduate educational experience.
  • Faculty Research and Graduate Studies -Research, scholarly activities, and innovations in graduate education.

February 15: Deadline for preliminary discussions with the Dean of University College or the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity.
March 15: Proposals deadline

NEW! Konneker Fund for Learning and Discovery

This new fund supports innovative, high-impact initiatives designed to advance undergraduate learning and research and graduate education. Applicants may request $50,000 for two years or $100,000 overall. Faculty and staff are eligible to submit proposals; collaborative projects are strongly encouraged.

Start Up Funds

Department/School applies on behalf of new faculty member. Awarded jointly by college and VP for Research to provide initial capital and operating funds to launch their research careers and become competitive for external funding.

Faculty Research Support Program

Funds publications, subventions, on-campus conferences, emergency equipment repair, travel to meet potential sponsors, or negotiating a research grant or contract (no conference travel). Awards are limited to $1,500 per year per faculty for travel; $350 per year per faculty for publication charges; all other requests may not exceed $1,000 per year per faculty).

Research Challenge Grants

Upon submission of an external grant proposal, awards of up to $3,500 are provided when matched by college or departmental/school sources.  Application forms are mailed to the project director/investigator after submission of an eligible external grant proposal.

Research Incentive

A portion of the recovered Facilities & Administrative Costs (indirect costs) is allocated to the investigator(s), department/school chair(s), dean(s) and/or affiliated center or institute to support research.  Distribution is made monthly based on expenditure of eligible restricted account funds.

Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI) at Ohio University Funding Opportunity Announcements
 

OMNI Research Grant

The Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI) aims to support and facilitate research aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal and neurological systems and their component tissues. 

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to stimulate innovative research that will expand our current understanding of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.  The PI's on funded applications must commit to submitting at least one extramural grant paying F&A costs through OMNI within 18-months of the award. Awards can be for up to $10,000. Larger awards (e.g., $20k) may be considered, but budget requests exceeding $10,000 should be discussed with the OMNI Director Brian Clark, clarkb2@ohio.edu

Sybert Scholar Orthopaedic Medicine Research Award

The purpose of the Sybert Scholar Orthopaedic Medicine Research Award is to provide selected OU-HCOM medical students funding to pursue basic science and clinical research and scholarly activities. The core of the program is a research project that the student pursues independently or under faculty direction. Projects must make a significant contribution to the field of orthopaedics. Projects may be contributing to an ongoing faculty research project in the laboratory or clinic or be an original research project designed by the student.  The award is administered by the Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI).  The next anticipated funding opportunity announcement will be released in the Fall of 2012.  For information please contact Brian Clark, OMNI Director, at clarkb2@ohio.edu
