| How to Register Using TRIPS (Touch-Tone Registration and Information Processing System) |
| TOUCH-TONE REGISTRATION Prior to accessing TRIPS, be sure you have a Schedule of Classes and have completed the TRIPS Registration Worksheet. We recommend using a corded touch-tone telephone when calling TRIPS. HEARING IMPAIRED Hearing impaired students on the Athens campus who find they cannot register through existing telephones may obtain registration assistance at the Office for Institutional Equity, Crewson House, or register by accessing the Office of the University Registrar Web site, www.ohio.edu/registrar, and selecting Register for Classes under Quick Links to Online Services. Regional campus students should contact their student services office or register using Web Registration. CALLING TRIPS FOR REGISTRATION Your registration time and date appear on your priority registration DARS report which you obtain from your advisor, department, school, or student services office (see General Information: Registration Material Locations). TIME LIMIT You will have 10 minutes to register on TRIPS. Classes already added, dropped, or replaced before your time runs out will not be "lost" if your time expires. If you have not finished registering, just call back and complete your registration. (You should listen to your list of class requests before continuing your registration.) REGISTRATION ACCESS CODE (RAC) TRIPS will ask for your RAC (see General Information: Registration Access Code). This is the four-digit number that is listed on your priority registration DARS report. If you do not have a RAC, report to the student services office in your college for assistance. Regional campus students report to their regional campus student services office. The RAC is considered confidential information and, therefore, cannot be given over the telephone. ENTRY CODES There are several codes you will need to enter from your touch-tone telephone keypad: System TRIPS will ask for a one-digit system code: 1 - Registration System; 2 - Grade Reporting System Social Security Number TRIPS will ask for your nine-digit Social Security Number. Term Code TRIPS will ask for a one-digit term code: 1 - Fall; 2 - Winter; 3 - Spring; 4 - Summer Registration Access Code (RAC) TRIPS will ask for your four-digit Registration Access Code (RAC). Call Number To identify each class, TRIPS will ask for a five-digit call number obtained from the course offerings listing. Grading Options (Credit/Audit) A one or two-digit code must be entered after the call number of each class you wish to add. A course may be taken for credit or for audit (no credit). The pound key (#) is used to add a class for credit. AU is used to add a class for audit (not for pass/fail); press the "A" followed by the "U" on the telephone keypad. Note: Classes taken for audit do not fulfill graduation requirements or graduate contract requirements. Pass/Fail grading option is NOT available through TRIPS (see General Information: Pass/Fail Grading Option for information on registering for this option). Variable Hour Courses If a course is a variable hour course, TRIPS will ask you to enter the appropriate credit hours followed by the pound key (#). This is done after the grading option has been entered. TRIPS WILL ...add or drop classes one at a time. ...tell you if a class is full. ...check for duplicate courses to prevent registration for multiple sections of the same course (e.g., you may not register for both C S 120 section A01 and C S 120 section A02). ...replace a section of a course for which you are currently registered with another section of the same course. (Be sure to enter the call number of the class for which you wish to be enrolled.) ...list your class schedule (course, day, time, building, and room). ...list your class requests (course, credit hours, and call number). ...list your grades, GPA information, and academic status. ...tell you if you have a registration hold. TRIPS WILL NOT ...allow any classes to be added after the 8th calendar day of the quarter. ...accept changes in grading option (credit to audit or audit to credit) to classes already added. If you are already in a class and need to make a change, drop the class then add the class indicating the correct grading option. This must be completed by the 8th calendar day of the quarter if using TRIPS. After the 8th calendar day and on or before the 15th calendar day of the quarter, contact the student services office in your college or your regional campus student services office. ...check for open sections. TRIPS is unable to assist in the search for open sections. Students encountering closed sections can search for open sections by accessing the Office of the University Registrar Web site, www.ohio.edu/registrar, and selecting Course Offerings under Quick Links to Online Services. Always organize your registration materials and have alternate class call numbers ready. ...allow any classes to be added when doing so will cause you to exceed 20 Undergraduate or 18 Graduate credit hours for the quarter. See General Information: Course Load for information on maximum credit hours of registration allowed without permission. ...allow you to sign up for Pass/Fail option. See General Information: Pass/Fail Grading Option. ...list fees owed. Inquiries regarding your eBill may be directed to the Office of the Bursar, (740) 593-4130; regional campus students should contact their regional campus student services office. Current account statements can be viewed on the Office of the Bursar Web site www.finance.ohio.edu/bursar. HOLDS If you have a registration hold, you will not be permitted to complete your registration until your hold is released. Check your DARS report for detailed information on which office(s) placed the hold(s). Contact the office(s) that placed the hold(s) to determine how to fulfill your obligation to have your hold(s) released. If you have a current unpaid balance, TRIPS will prevent you from registering. Contact the Office of the Bursar, (740) 593-4130; regional campus students should contact their regional campus student services office. Current account statements can be viewed on the Web, at www.finance.ohiou.edu/bursar. PERMISSION REQUIRED Enrollment in "permission required" classes must be done in person. (Athens campus - see the instructor/departmental chair to obtain a class permission slip and return to the appropriate office as indicated on the form. Regional campuses - contact the regional campus student services office.) PREREQUISITES The prerequisites listed for each course in the course offerings section of the Schedule of Classes are the minimum requirements for each class. Students may petition departments to override listed prerequisites. This is done only with a class permission slip. TIME CONFLICTS TRIPS will allow you to register for classes that overlap; however, TRIPS will give you ONE warning (stating a conflict exists) each time you call the system. After this warning, if additional time conflicts occur, you will not receive a warning. After the first warning, you have the option to accept the time conflict or cancel the class request. If you hang up before cancelling the class request, it will automatically be added to your schedule. QUESTIONS If you have any questions regarding registration on TRIPS, please call the Office of the University Registrar, (740) 593-4324, or contact your regional campus student services office. |
