Learn to Skate

The "learn to skate" programs take place on Saturday and Wednesday mornings in the fall and winter quarters. Participants must be age 3 or older and will be placed at a beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. Two sessions focus on ice skating and getting children comfortable on the ice. Preregistration is recommended. Click on the "Learn to Skate" link above for more information or call 597-1458.

Academic Skating Classes

Learn the skills, techniques and strategies of sports on ice. Choose from broomball, hockey, ice skating and figure skating. Beginning and advanced classes are available fall and winter quarters.

ACHA D-1 Hockey Team

Bird Arena serves as home ice for the 2004 ACHA Champions, the Ohio University Hockey Team. Not only is the team a winning legacy, it is one of only a few of its kind in the nation where the majority of its executive staff is comprised of students. This opportunity provides the students practical experience while working on their degrees. Team tryouts are held in September. Call 593-0251 for more information.

Intramural Broomball

Attention all non-skaters, we have the sport for you. Broomball is a growing intramural sport at Ohio University. Played on the ice, participants engage in hockey-like competition with a broom and ball while wearing tennis shoes. Men, Women and Coed teams are available. For more information, call 593-9946.

Recreational Hockey

Take up a position on the ice with recreational hockey. This program allows you to participate in games suited to meet your desired competition level, either contact or non-contact. Call 597-1440 for more information.

Figure Skating Club

Improve style and form on ice with the figure skating club. For more information, call 597-1458.

Special Events
