ACHA D-1 Hockey Team

Bird Arena serves as home ice for the 2004 ACHA Champions, the Ohio University Hockey Team. Not only is the team a winning legacy, it is one of only a few of its kind in the nation where the majority of its executive staff is comprised of students. This opportunity provides the students practical experience while working on their degrees. Team tryouts are held at the end of August beginning of Fall Semester. Call 593-0251 for more information.

D-2 Hockey Team

The D2 team is a student organization, that plays in the Tri-State Collegiate Hockey League. Try-outs for our D2 team are held the week after D1 Try-outs, during the second week of Fall Semester. For more information call (740)593-0251.

Learn to Skate

The Learn to Skate program take place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings in the fall and spring semesters. Participants must be age 3 or older and will be placed in the appropriate level(Snow Plow Sam- Basic 8). Pre-registration is recommended. Visit our LTS page for more information or call 597-1458.

Recreational Hockey

Take up a position on the ice with recreational hockey also known as the BAHL (Bird Arena Hockey League). This program allows you to participate in games suited to meet your desired competition level, non-contact. Call (740)597-1440 or (740)593-0251 for more information.

Ohio University Synchronized Skating Team

Special Events

Ohio University hosts various special events from September to March at Bird Arena. From hockey games and figure skating classes, to the Midnight Meltdown, there's always something happening on the ice.

Academic Skating Classes

Learn the skills, techniques and strategies of sports on ice. Choose from broomball, hockey, ice skating and figure skating. Beginning and advanced classes are available fall and winter quarters.

Intramural Broomball

Attention all non-skaters, we have the sport for you. Broomball is a growing intramural sport at Ohio University. Played on the ice, participants engage in hockey-like competition with a broom and ball while wearing tennis shoes. Men, Women and Coed teams are available. For more information, call 593-9946.
