Learn To Skate
Our Coaches at our 2012 Ice Show
Bird arena offers various disciplines of skating as described below. Check out each category and decide which is for you. For more information, contact the Learn to Skate office at 597-1458.
Group Lessons
For the beginning skater, this class is designed to teach skaters the basics of figure skating, or recreational skating. Classes are available beginning at 3 years of age through adult.
Group Lesson Sessions:
-Fall "Back to Skating Camp" Session- Four weeks of lessons, two lessons per week (Tuesdays and Saturdays)
-Fall Eight Week Session- Eight weeks of lessons, one lesson per week. (Either Tuesdays OR Saturdays.)
-Winter Eight Week Session- Eight weeks of lessons, one lesson per week. (Either Tuesdays OR Saturdays.)
Synchronized Skating
Ohio University has a club Synchronized Skating Team at the Open Collegiate level, with a team of 8-16 skaters. Traveling to six different competitions a year, self funded this team has had many acheivements. Such as placing third at regionals last year, and being awarded Club Team of the Year 2012-13 at Ohio University.
Freestyle Sessions
Freestyle sessions allow skaters extra practice time to fine tune their skills. More advanced skaters are allowed to work on jumps, spins, and moves in the field. It is $7.50 for a 45 min. freestyle.
Freestyle Times:
Tuesday/ Thursdays : 5pm-5:45pm,5:45pm-6:30pm
Fridays : 4pm-4:45pm,4:45pm-5:30pm
Saturdays: 11:45am-12:30pm,12:30pm,1:15pm
Coaching/Private Lessons
Private lessons are perfect for those skaters who want to advance their skating skills. Each skater will be provided with a coach that best fits their needs. Private lessons take place during freestyle times. Setting up times will be between you and your private coach. Private lessons are available for both hockey and figure skaters starting at age 3 and up.
