Learn to Swim 

Welcome to the Aquatic Center Learn To Swim Program.We are excited about the opportunities to help our patrons not only Learn To Swim, but to improve the Learn To Swim process.The following program has been developed to provide a safe and positive learning experience in and around the aquatic environment.

The Aquatic Center offers two different types of swimming lessons.
Group Lessons: Participants are grouped together with similar swimming abilities. Group will meet for 30 minutes, twice a week for 6 classes.
Private Lessons: Participant is taught in a one-on-one session with their instructor.These sessions can be purchased individually or in groups of 5.

REGISTRATION: All registrations will be administered from the Front Desk of the Aquatic Center.Payment is expected at the time of registration.

LESSON SPECTATOR: Parents are welcome to come onto the pool deck and sit in the assigned bleachers to watch lessons.We do ask that all spectators stay in the bleachers during the lesson time.To provide the instructor with the proper level of support, we ask that we minimize distractions and communication during the lesson time.We will be providing time during the last class in the session for you to come to pool side and watch class and take pictures.

SELECTING THE PROPER LEVEL:The proper placement of participants will assist with the instruction and the educational environment.The following descriptions are provided to assist in this placement process.

DESCRIPTIONS
Parent/Toddler 1:
Recommended age:6 months to 18 months old
Class is designed for the parent and child to be in the water together.This is a water exploratory class will cover basic skills that parent can work with their child.No previous swimming experience is necessary

Parent/Toddler 2:Recommended age: 18 months to 3 years old
This class is designed for the parent and child to work together on swimming skills.At the completion of this class participant can register for the Preschool 2 class

Preschool 1:Recommended age: 3to 5 years of age
This class is for the beginner swimmer.No previous swimming experience is necessary.At the completion of the class, participants should be ready for Preschool 2

Preschool 2:Recommended age:3 to 5 years of age
Class is designed for the beginner swimmer with some experience.Participants entering this level should be able to do the following:

1.Enter & Exit the water unassisted

(Sit and Slide in Method)

2.Float on their back for 10 seconds

3.Float on their Stomach for 10 seconds

4.Put their face in the water

Preschool 3:Recommended age: 3 to 6 years of age
Class is designed for the preschooler that has completed Preschool 1 & 2.Participants entering this level should be able to complete Preschool 2 skills in addition to the following:

1.Front & Back Glide

2.Roll from Front to Back

3.Roll from Back to Front

4.Flutter Kick on Stomach

5.Flutter kick on back

6.Bob 5 times in a row

7.Tread water for 10 seconds

NOTE:With completion of this level, participants may register for level 2

Level 1: Recommended age: 4 to 7 years old or demonstration of previous skill level
Class is designed for the beginner swimmer with some experience.Participants entering this level should be able to do the following:

1.Enter & Exit the water unassisted

a.(Sit and slip in method)

2.Float on their back for 10 seconds

3.Float on their stomach for 10 seconds

4.Put their face in the water

5.Changing directions in the water

6.Treading water

7.Alternating arm action

Level 2:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level

Class is designed for beginning swimmers with some experience and have completed Level 1 or Preschool 3 courses.Participants entering this level should be able to complete the following:

1.Blowing bubble with rhythmic breathing

2.Swim on their front at least 2 body lengths

3.Alternating Arm action on Front & Back

4.Bobbing at least 3 times in a row

5.Open eyes underwater

6.Glide for 2 body lengths on stomach

Level 3:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level

Class is designed for basic level swimmers ready to learn stroke development.Participants entering this level should have passed Level 2 skills and should be able to demonstrate the following:

1.Combined leg and are action for 15 feet

2.Jumping in from the side unassisted

3.Front and Back glide for 3 body lengths

4.Treading water for 20 seconds

5.Glide from wall, change directions & return to wall unassisted

6.Jump into deep water


Level 4:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level
Class is designed for intermediate swimmers that have completed skills for Level 3.Participants entering this level should also be able to demonstrate the following:

1.Kneeling Dive

2.Treading water for 40 seconds

3.Back float for 30 seconds

4.Change direction & body position in deep water

5.Swim crawl stroke 15 yards

6.Swim back crawl stroke 15 yards

7.Elementary backstroke 10 yards

8.Sidestroke for 10 yards


Level 5:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level

Class is designed for the intermediate swimmer that has completed the skills for level 4.Participants should also be able to demonstrate the following skills:

1.Head first dive

2.Swim underwater 4 body lengths

3.Front & Back crawl open turn

4.Treading water 2 min

5.Breaststroke for 15 yards

6.Front crawl for 25 yards

7.Streamline position front & back


Level 6:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level
Class is designed for the intermediate to advanced swimmer that has completed level 5 skills.Participants should also be able to demonstrate the following skills:

1.Dive from side and return unassisted

2.Tuck and pike surface dives

3.Front and back flip turn while swimming

4.Tread water 5 min

5.Front Crawl 50 yards

6.Back Crawl 25 yards

7.Butterfly 25 yards

8.Elementary backstroke 50 yards

9.Reaching & throwing Water rescues


Level 7:Recommended age:Minimum of 5 years old or demonstration of previous skill level
Class is designed for the intermediate to advanced swimmer that has completed level 6 skills.Participants should also be able to demonstrate the following skills:

1.Front Crawl 100 yards

2.Elementary Backstroke 50 yards

3.Back Crawl 50 yards

4.Breaststroke 50 yards

5.Butterfly 50 yards

6.Open Front & Back turns

7.Front & back Flip turns

8.Butterfly turn

9.Circle swimming
