The Learn to Swim Program is based on the American Red Cross program and is designed to integrate the principles of learning with fun and safety. This combination will give yourself and/or your child the best instruction for learning swimming skills.
Each participant will be placed in a class with an experienced, certified
Water Safety Instructor who holds the student's safety and learning as his/her
priority. The instructor to student ratio will be within the national standards
for excellence to promote key attention for individual development. A four
week (two classes per week) session is available.
Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday evening. Beginning and
ending dates are listed below.
REGISTRATION: Registration for the Learn to Swim program
occurs on the first and fifth Wednesday of fall, winter, and spring university
quarters.
Location: Aquatic Center, 6pm.

STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT
| Level I: Water Exploration | Water adjustment and safe water enjoyment |
| Level II: Primary Skills | Success with fundamental aquatic skills (independent floating, stroke elements and locomotion) |
| Level III: Stroke Readiness | Guided practice to build new skills (front/back crawl, elementary backstroke & deep water safety) |
| Level IV: Stroke Development | Stroke Development Build confidence in and endurance of strokes while improving skills (introduce breaststroke and sidestroke) |
| Level V: Stroke Refinement | Coordinate and refine key strokes (introduce butterfly) |
| Parent/Toddler | Explore the water environment with your toddler and help him or her to adjust to the water environment. Ages 6 months to 3 years. |
| Preschool I: Exploration & Safety | Designed for children uncomfortable around the water environment. Ages 3 to 5 years. |
| Preschool II: Primary Skills | Basic swimming skills and water fundamentals including floating and water safety. Ages 3 to 5 years. |
