Position Description - Challenge Program Facilitator
Hourly Rate $10/hour

Description
Facilitators are responsible for everything related to the actual day of a challenge program event including program supplies, set up of the course, and ensuring that the day’s events run smoothly. Facilitators are responsible for the group’s safety, enjoyment, and educational experience for the day. Facilitators must complete the 40-hour Outdoor Pursuits Challenge Course training before working a program. Facilitators will be trained in the skills required to safely and confidently lead a group through the high and low challenge courses as well as the zip-line, pamper pole, and rappelling tower. Facilitators blend a combination of interpersonal skills, technical skills, and a desire to work with people to provide meaningful educational experiences to challenge program participants.

Additional Information
Facilitating for the challenge program is not a regular hourly shift job but rather an “as needed” job; the work schedule is determined by how often challenge course programs are reserved by outside groups. All facilitators are notified as groups reserve the course and will have the opportunity to request to work. Winter quarter and summer work is also available but is not required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications
Current certifications in the following:
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
• American Red Cross Basic First Aid
• Ohio University Outdoor Pursuits Belay Card
• Successful completion of the 40 hour Outdoor Pursuits Challenge Course training

Preferred Qualifications
• Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder

Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of challenge course facilitation including technical and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of, application of, and ability to enforce policies and procedures
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to instruct participants
• Commitment to excellence in customer service

Experience
• Must have good work ethic, be dependable, self-motivated, and have ability to work independently
• Experience working with the public preferred
• Experience working with challenge courses is a bonus, but not required

Responsibilities
• Facilitate learning-centered challenge program experiences
• Set up and close down the course properly
• Complete paperwork including opening and closing checklists, inspection and facilitator logs
• Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for both staff and participants
• Enforcement of all policies and procedures
• Attend continuing education sessions as needed
