You are interested in the success of your student at Ohio University. We are, too.
As the University transitions from a quarters-based calendar to a semesters-based calendar in August 2012 we are encouraging every student to participate in a transition advising session during which he or she will map out the future plan of study for degree completion in semesters. Those advising appointments will take place during the 2011-2012 academic year. For more information about advising periods and contact person within specific academic departments, check the Department Q2S Information link in the left column.
As there are updates of special interest to parents/families, they will be posted on this page. We also encourage you to sign up for Parent/Families communication newsletter sent throughout the academic year by the Office of the Dean of Student. Most issues include a Q2S update. Some bachelor’s and associate degree students may be able to graduate in August 2012 even if they have not completed the quarter-based minimum credit hour requirements. Students who may be eligible for this waiver received the following message via email on March 26, 2012.
The University approved a resolution which will allow a waiver of up to twelve quarter credit hours for the baccalaureate degree and up to six quarter credit hours for the associate degree for students who have completed all other requirements.
Bachelor’s Degree: If a student has completed at least 180 total credit hours (equivalent to 120 semester credit hour requirement) and all other graduation requirements by end of summer quarter s/he may be able to graduate in August with a bachelor’s degree.
Associate Degree: If a student is pursuing an associate degree, s/he may be eligible to graduate in August if least 90 total credit hours (equivalent to 60 semester credit hour requirement) have been completed and all other graduation requirements are completed by the end of summer quarter.
Those who are eligible and wish to graduate in August must apply for summer graduation before the July 26, 2012 deadline using the regular application process.
If the application is approved for degree conferral by the academic unit, a waiver of up to twelve quarter credit hours for the baccalaureate degree requirement and up to six quarter credit hours for the associate degree requirement will be applied automatically for students who have completed all other requirements.
This waiver is a result of the transition to semesters and is only applicable to summer quarter 2012 degree conferral. Effective fall semester a waiver will not be necessary given the University reduced the minimum number of hours required to graduate.
Students who are eligible and intend to apply for summer quarter graduation may elect to participate in spring commencement ceremonies. To do so, they must apply for spring quarter graduation, indicating on the application that they will complete graduation requirements in summer quarter; their application will automatically be reinitiated for summer graduation.
Questions about the process may be directed to the Q2S Transition Office at email@example.com.
