Regional Campuses have traditionally enabled Ohio University to provide access to higher education for the underserved student population of Appalachian Ohio.Families with limited income and mobility in Southeastern Ohio look to the Ohio University regional campuses to fulfill their educational needs and ambitions through high quality academic programs. At the same time, regional campuses engage in exemplary service to their surrounding communities.
Much of Ohio University's ability to contribute to the University System of Ohio (USO) will rest in the five regional campuses. The enrollment expectations and some of the access requirements of the USO are well suited to the mission of the regional campuses.
In order to put the regional campuses in the best position to take on their heightened role, the Executive Vice President and Provost's Office launched in January 2008 the Task Force on the Future of Regional Campuses. In undertaking this review of the mission and resources of the regional campuses, Executive Vice President and Provost Krendl asked for particular attention to be paid to five specific areas: administrative and reporting structures; academic program development; faculty relationships with departments on the Athens campus; finances; and auxiliary and student services.
Members of the task force included staff, faculty, and administrators from Athens and all of the regional campuses. The report was completed in April 2008 and is now being used to form the cornerstone of discussions to take place with constituent groups, the academic leadership, and planning bodies such as the Vision Ohio Steering Committee.
During Fall Quarter 2008, Executive Vice President and Provost Krendl, deans, vice presidents, and faculty from the Athens campus will visit each of the regional campuses to take up the subcommittee recommendations contained in the Task Force on the Future of Regional Campuses Report.
