Use the appropriate form (linked below) to begin the nomination process.
In accordance with Ohio University Policy and Procedure 18.031 and Faculty Handbook Section V.F., recommendations for emeritus/emerita status must begin in the department of current service by a process established by that department (in most areas, it is similar to the promotion process).
As the nomination moves through the appropriate chain of command, short (one-page) letters of support from the chair/director, dean, and/or other appropriate administrators are to be attached to the form. Letters should address the following factors, as well as any others deemed pertinent to the nomination: length of service at Ohio University (ten years minimum except in special circumstances); quality of teaching, research, service, and/or performance in an administrative position; overall contribution to Ohio University; service to society beyond the University community; and pertinent recognition and honors.
All nominations must be approved by the executive vice president and provost and the president.
Submit nominations to the associate provost for faculty and academic planning, Cutler Hall 310, any time before May 15.
Approved nominations are presented to the Board of Trustees at the next available meeting.
Once presented to the trustees, the president's office sends letters of congratulation to those receiving emeritus/emerita status or, in the cases of status being granted posthumously, a designated family member.
