The next Faculty Senate meeting is January 24, 2011
Phone: 740.593.9877
In accordance with Ohio University Policy and Procedure 18.031 and Faculty Handbook Section V.F., recommendations for conferment of emeritus/emerita status must begin in the department of current service by a process established by that department (in most areas, it is similar to the promotion process) and, if approved, does not become effective until after retirement from the University.
Following approval at the departmental level, nominations are forwarded through the proper administrative chair of command to the executive vice president and provost (EVPP). After review by the EVPP, nominations are forwarded to the president and then to the Ohio University Board of Trustees.
Nomination forms for both faculty and administrators track this approval process. Short, one-page, letters of support from the appropriate chair/director and dean, or other appropriate administrators, are to be attached to the form.
Letters of support should address the following factors, as well as any others deemed pertinent to the nomination: length of service at Ohio University (ten years minimum except in special circumstances); quality of teaching, research, service, and/or performance in an administrative position; overall contribution to Ohio University; service to society beyond the University community; and pertinent recognitions and honors.
Emeriti recommendations go before the trustees once each year at the spring meeting, usually held in April.
Nominations can be submitted anytime prior to March 1.
Submit nominations to Anita Leach, EVPP Office, Cutler Hall 310.
