Prompted in part by conversations with Faculty Senate Executive Committee that took place at the end of Spring Quarter, the Board of Trustees asked the University's leadership to review the Five Year Vision Ohio Implementation Plan. The Board wanted us to identify the core of the plan and capture it on a single page in time for the August Board of Trustee's retreat.
In July, the deans and executive staff produced a "one-pager" that listed strategic priorities for each of the six Vision Ohio goals. This document was submitted to the Board of Trustees prior to their August retreat.
During their August Board retreat, the Board of Trustees worked on drafting their own "one-pager." They finalized it at a mini-retreat during the October Board of Trustees meeting.
After the October meeting, the two versions of the "one-pager" were given to the Vision Ohio Steering Committee (VOSC). VOSC, a university-wide committee made up of representatives from each of the constituent groups, was charged by the Executive Vice President and Provost to review both documents and to come up with a list of strategic priorities under each of the six Vision Ohio goals.
Provost Benoit encouraged VOSC members to consult with constituents and if need be to go beyond the set of strategic priorities that were found in the Board of Trustees and deans and executive staff documents. In order to facilitate consultation with constituents, both versions of the "one-pager" were posted on the EVPP website.
By Mid-November, VOSC had produced an unranked list of strategic priorities for each of the six goals. VOSC then engaged in a prioritization exercise in which they selected priorities within goals and then selected priorities across all goals.
The deans and executive staff, heads of the constituent senates, and all chairs and directors of academic units also were given the opportunity to complete the same prioritization exercise using the VOSC list of priorities.
The results were compiled and served as the basis for the set of six draft strategic priorities to be discussed at the January Board of Trustees meeting.
