John C. Day, PhD
John Day is the O’Bleness Professor of Management Information Systems and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Business. He holds a Masters and PhD in Experimental Psychology from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Ohio University.
He joined the faculty of the College of Business in 1983 and has served as the Chair of the MIS department from 1993 to 2006. He has served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Business since July, 2002. His areas of responsibility within the college include strategic planning, college policies and procedures, academic staffing and budget, program development and assessment, enrollment planning and accreditation.
He was a founding member of the MIS program in 1983 including the ultimate designation of the program as a center for academic excellence and the creation of a separate MIS department in 1990. He has been involved in the development of the MIS curriculum for over 23 years and teaches courses in Database Management, Local Area Networking, Systems Analysis and Programming.
He has extensive experience with problem-based, group projects and has implemented several technological platforms to support that learning approach. He has participated in the creation of numerous innovative programs in the college including the problem-based curriculum for the Athens MBA program, the design and delivery of the innovative MBA Without Boundaries program, the Brazilian Executive MBA program, the creation of the integrated undergraduate cluster curriculum, the creation of the international consulting project (JSCP) in the Athens MBA program that became the model for the Global Competitiveness Program (GCP), and the offering of MIS courses through the Ohio Learning Network.
He has published numerous articles in the Journal of Computer Information Systems and the Information Resource Management Journal. He has also published six textbooks in end-user computing and database design. He is a charter member in the Association for Information Systems, a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals and a founding member in the AIS, SIG on IS in Asia Pacific.
He has served on numerous college committees including tenure and promotion, undergraduate curriculum, graduate curriculum, strategic planning, freshmen engagement program, Cardinal Junior Executive program for minorities, CoB faculty president, Deans search committees, and Dean’s evaluation committees.
He has also served on numerous university committees including Faculty Senate Finance committee, Faculty Senate Executive committee, University Curriculum Council, Graduate Council, , the PEW roundtable, Enrollment Management, IT Planning, New Faculty Initiative, Benefits Advisory Council, Graduate Stipends committee, UPAC, AQIP, Critical Thinking Faculty Learning Community, Budget Planning Council and Vision OHIO Resources Committee.
John and his wife, Ruth, have three children, two of whom currently attend Ohio University. In his spare time John is involved in wood sculpture, independent film-making and soccer.
