Robert A. Kennedy
Executive Vice President and Provost, University of Maine
Robert A. Kennedy has served in his current position as executive vice president and provost at the University of Maine since 2000. Among his previous positions were vice president for research and associate provost for graduate studies at Texas A&M University, 1992-2000; vice president for research at the Maryland Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources, the University of Maryland System, 1989-1992; expert (half-time) with the Physiological Processes Program, Division of Molecular Biosciences, National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., 1989; and director of the Cellular Biochemistry Program, Division of Molecular Biosciences, with the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C., 1987-1988.
Additionally, he was chair of the Department of Horticulture and a faculty member in the Biotechnology Center at the Ohio State University, 1985-1987; professor of horticulture at Washington State University, 1979-1985; professor of botany at the University of Iowa, 1974-1978; and he was with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Nutrition Laboratory, 1969-1971.
Kennedy has held memberships with the Board of Trustees for the Association of Western Universities of which he was vice chair and chair, 1998-2003; Board of Trustees for Texas Healthcare and Biosciences Institute, 1998-2000; Board of Directors for NASA/National Space Biomedical Research Institute, 1997-2000; Board of Directors, Software Commercialization and Innovation Center, 1997-2000; and associate member for the National Academy of Government/University/Industry Research Roundtable, 1997-2000.
He has been the principal investigator or co-author on more than 40 awards and has published more than 60 refereed publications. Kennedy has received several administrative awards and is included in biographical listings of outstanding individuals.
