Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

I am pleased to report to you that earlier today the members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1699 approved a collective bargaining agreement with Ohio University that continues through February 2013.

I offer my sincere gratitude to the members of the negotiating teams, both those who represented Ohio University and those who represented Local 1699. Their dedicated work yielded an agreement that honors the valued contributions of our employees while recognizing the challenges of the fiscal environment the University faces.

The members of AFSCME Local 1699 are an important part of Ohio University's proud history and they will play an important role in our future achievements. We are transforming as an institution in a landscape of great change for higher education across the nation. Our entire University community working together to meet these challenges gives me great confidence in our future.
