Dear Neighbor:
We hope that your off-campus living experiences in the neighborhoods of Athens have been pleasant and that you have connected with many fellow Athenians and their families. As friends and neighbors in our community gather to celebrate the end of the long winter, we hope you will join us in creating an atmosphere of respect, collegiality and a commitment to being a good neighbor.
In the City of Athens, as in many of your hometowns, community is what you, the residents make of it. In Athens, municipal code, social covenants, and etiquette are in place to assure safety for you, for our community and for visitors to our community.
Establishing clear expectations for sound levels, safety, traffic patterns, parking regulations, refuse receptacles and respect of public and private property will help us assure that we can all celebrate a beautiful spring in Athens with camaraderie and mutual respect.
The Athens City Code details your responsibilities as it relates to regulations and penalties related to aspects of residency including nuisance parties, outdoor fires and liquor and narcotics. Please review the Athens Municipal Code available online both through links at the Athens City web site or directly, paying special attention to Title 9 and the detail included in its contents.
We are proud that you are an Athenian. We want to be sure that Athens continues to be a wonderfully special place for families, students, celebrations, creativity and respect.
Cordially,
Paul Wiehl Roderick J. McDavis
Mayor, City of Athens President, Ohio University
