Dear Community Member:
On behalf of Ohio University and the City of Athens we welcome you to our city and community. If you have lived on- or off-campus prior to this year we hope you have taken the opportunity to enjoy the many activities the community has to offer, and connect with individuals and families in Athens. If you live off-campus, we welcome you to the neighborhoods where many of your fellow Athenians have laid down roots and are raising their families.
As you live in, visit, or travel through the neighborhoods of Athens, we encourage you to talk with and get to know your neighbors. They are teachers, grocers, musicians, painters, parents, children, grandparents, and gardeners who share something in common with you—they have chosen Athens as their home.
As an Athenian, you are now an important part of this special place. Just like the hometown where you grew up, Athens is as beloved and unique to us and we hope you will have a fondness and respect for it whether you are here for just a few years or for a lifetime.
As you spend some of the most challenging and rich years of your life in Athens, we hope that you will make the most of it for yourself and for your friends and neighbors. Welcome, neighbor!
Cordially,
Paul Wiehl Roderick J. McDavis
Mayor, City of Athens President, Ohio University
