Over the last two weeks, the devastation in Haiti as a result of a massive earthquake has moved many of us to seek ways to support relief efforts. I am pleased to share you with some information on upcoming Haitian relief events in our community.

Rally for Haiti

• Sunday, January 24, 2010 – 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. – Baker University Center Ballroom

Pancake Breakfast

• Friday, January 22, 2010 – 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. – First United Methodist Church, 2 South College Street
• No charge for admission or meal
• Relief Organizations will be in attendance, able to accept cash and check donations

Haitian Relief Dinner

• Friday, February 5, 2010 – 5 to 8 p.m. – First United Methodist Church, 2 South College Street
• No charge for admission or meal
• Rice, Beans, Stew, Cornbread Meal; Haitian Music
• Relief Organizations will be in attendance, able to accept cash and check donations

ONLINE INFORMATION FOR RELIEF ORGANIZATIONS

For people wishing to directly connect with organizations leading relief efforts, both the American Red Cross and UNICEF are accepting online donations and have volunteer opportunities available.

I applaud the efforts of students, faculty, staff and our community leaders to support the relief efforts for the people of Haiti. This outpouring of generosity and compassion demonstrates the true sense of the remarkable community at Ohio University and in Athens.
