The top three candidates for the position of executive vice president and provost will visit the Athens campus beginning May 4 for additional interviews and the opportunity to interact with the university community.
President Roderick J. McDavis formed the 14-member search committee earlier this year to find a successor to Kathy A. Krendl, who announced in December that she would step down as executive vice president and provost on June 30, 2009, to assume the presidency of Otterbein College, a private liberal arts school of about 3,100 students in Westerville, Ohio.
As the university's top academic officer, the executive vice president and provost is responsible for the implementation of the university's academic plan, the advancement of the academic mission, and the continuous improvement of the quality of the academic experience at Ohio University. He or she also is responsible for overseeing enrollment management and student success as well as enhancing academic research, scholarship, and creative activity and the diversity of the institution.
The successful candidate, according the position posting on the Office of the President's Web site, will demonstrate -- among other things -- significant administrative achievement, intellectual leadership, clear and collegial communication skills, and a commitment to shared governance, diversity, teaching excellence, and research and creative activity. He or she also must demonstrate success in developing and overseeing all types of financial resources.
In chronological order, the three candidates are:
- Susan Carlson, associate provost for faculty advancement and diversity, Iowa State University. Dr. Carlson received her doctorate in English from the University of Oregon. Dr. Carlson's visit is scheduled for May 4. The full itinerary and curriculum vitae is available for Dr. Carlson.
- Pam Benoit, vice provost for advanced studies and dean of the Graduate School, University of Missouri. Dr. Benoit received her doctorate in communication from Wayne State University in Detroit.
