Civic Responsibility Task Force Recommendations
The Task Force's study led to the recommendations listed and linked below. They are grouped into four themes -- Education, Enforcement, Communication, and Collaboration -- reflecting five guiding principles:
Communication
Open and maintain communication channels between the city, university, and neighborhood residents via the concept of the Off-Campus Living Center. With this keystone initiative as the focal point, educational and enforcement communications opportunities are coordinated and woven into a greater concept…the development of a civic awareness and pride campaign, "Athens is my town!"
- Operating from the research and input generated from key audiences, this outreach effort is the backdrop against which all educational and communications efforts are developed and implemented. It is often effective to give a program a name, an acronym or even a graphic identity to build awareness. This potential exists if coordination is maintained via the Center.
- The Center goes on to organize key interactions between University and City, audiences and University/City etc. and the Center is the conduit through which information is disseminated to the media to help support and underpin ongoing communications strategies.
