Vision Ohio: The Strategic Plan

The Third Phase of Vision OHIO
Date: March 31, 2006

As I have said in previous comments, the creation of Vision OHIO began in November 2004, when I commissioned the Presidential Task Force on the Future of Ohio University. The work, completed by the task force in June 2005, concluded the first phase of the University’s strategic planning process. The next phase, completed during the 2005 Fall Quarter, focused on public hearings and open forum discussions for review and comment. We now are in the third phase, developing action plans and priorities through the 10 goal-specific implementation teams. Each team will submit a summary of its deliberations, as well as rank-ordered priorities. During this time, colleges and schools also are completing their strategic plans to align with Vision OHIO.

For more information on the Implementation Team charges and membership and to view draft documents and opportunities for feedback, please visit www.ohio.edu/provost/. The process deadlines are as follows:

  • College Strategic Plans – available on the Office of the Provost Web site
  • Departmental and School Strategic Plans – due May 31, 2006
  • Implementation Team reports – due at the end of the 2005-06 academic year
In June 2006, the Executive Implementation Team will review and summarize common themes and identify priorities based on the respective team reports. The Resources Team will develop the model for the new budget process based on its research and visits to Ohio State University, University of Michigan, and University of New Hampshire. The Deans’ Academic Leadership Council will finalize discipline-based quality and performance measures as well as recommendations related to academic programs.

During the 2006 Fall Quarter, we will bring the Executive Implementation Team, the Resources Team, and the Academic Leadership Council together to review the list of priorities, the proposed budget model, and the quality and performance measures. We will distribute the resulting documents to the campus community and schedule discussions with the Faculty, Administrative, and Classified senates, academic and academic support units, chairs and directors, and student groups.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the progress to date. We are making great strides toward successfully implementing our plan. I appreciate your support, ideas, and contributions to this important process!
