PURPOSE:

To provide a policy and procedure to insure that two-way radio communication equipment will be compatible with the University radio system.

POLICY:

No two-way radio communication equipment will be purchased or modified an no FCC license to operate two-way radio communication equipment will be obtained or modified unless done so pursuant to this policy.

PROCEDURE:

The following procedure will be followed prior to the purchase of two-way radio communication equipment, modification of existing two-way radio communication equipment, the obtaining of or modification to existing FCC licenses.

1. There will be a Radio Review and Approval committee with the following representation:

   A. Security
   B. Physical Plant
   C. Campus and Auxiliary Services
   D. Residence Life
   

   The committee will be chaired by the Director of Security.

2. The Radio Review and Approval Committee will meet on an as needed basis as determined by the Director of Security.

3. Individuals desiring to purchase two-way radio communication equipment modify existing equipment, obtain an FCC license or modify an existing FCC license shall complete the proper form and forward it to the Director of Security. The form must contain all information requests and any other information the applicant feels is pertinent.

4. The Committee will meet to review the applicant's submission. The applicant, if he/she desires, will be given an opportunity to meet with the Committee.

5. The Committee will have the authority to approve, disapprove or require modification to the proposal.

6. The Committee will submit its decision to the applicant as soon as time permits consistent with a sufficient amount of time necessary for a thorough review.

7. A copy of the Committee's approval must be attached to the bid specifications as a condition of advertisement. In the event the two-way radio communication equipment is to be purchased or modified without bid, a copy of the Committee's approval must be attached to the requisition.

8. All agencies on campus who hold an FCC license to operate two-way radio communication equipment shall keep a current copy of their license on file with the Radio Review and Approval Committee.

Decisions of the Radio Review and Approval Committee may be appealed in writing to the Vice President for Administration.
