POLICY

The Vice President for University Relations will accumulate from all sources a list of names with brief biographical data. University faculty and staff should channel names and brief biographical data through the appropriate senior officer; community suggestions should be channeled through the Vice President for University Relations; Trustee suggestions to the President; and alumni and other sources of suggestions should be channeled through the Vice President for Development.

To accommodate the Trustees' policy of naming first branch buildings for historical characters and of seeking recommendations from the regional advisory councils, the Vice Provost for Regional Higher Education will submit such recommendations to the Vice President for University Relations.

The Vice President for University Relations will submit the accumulated list to the senior officers for their review, priority listing, and classification. A list of unnamed buildings as prepared by the University Planner will also be submitted. These lists will also be presented to the President for his review, priority listing, and classification. The senior officers' group recommendation will be communicated to the President by the Vic President for University Relations for a final review by the President with the senior officers. This process will be repeated periodically to update biographical data and to review new names.

The President's recommendation for suggested names for each unnamed building will be communicated to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Board action.
