Purpose

To outline the policy of Ohio University concerning fee assessments applicable to undergraduate students registered at the Athens campus and one or more branch campuses. The intent of this policy is to standardize fee assessments with no differentiation in fees resulting from which campus a student may first register for courses.

Policy

Ohio University assesses fees at the rate in effect at each campus where registration takes place, up to but not to exceed the Athens campus comprehensive rates for full-time students. Overload hours (over 20 for undergraduate and over eighteen 18 for graduate students) are to be assessed at the Athens campus extra-hour rates.

Procedures

Reassessment of fees will be computed at the time of registration changes and processing of change orders, recognizing the approved time for dropping courses as published in the University bulletin.

I.  Complete Withdrawal

Official cancellation of registration before the first day of classes entitles the student to a reduction of 100% of registration fees. Official withdrawal during the first 15 calendar days of the quarter (or 8 calendar days of a sub-term) entitles the student to a reduction of 80% of the registration fees. There is no reduction of registration fees for withdrawals after the 15th day of the quarter (or 8th day of a sub-term).

II.  Increase or Reduction in Course Load

A change in registration during the first 15 calendar days of the quarter (or 8 calendar days of a sub-term) that does result in a change in fees, but that leaves the student registered for at least one course, entitles the student to 100% of any reduction in fees, and obligates the student to pay 100% of any increase in fees. There is no reduction of registration fees for reductions in course load after the 15th day of the quarter (or 8th day of a sub-term).

III.  Examples

Following are examples of fee assessments and calculations illustrating this policy.

  1. Assume undergraduate student registers for 4 hours on the Athens campus and 7 hours on the Zanesville campus. (Lower Division)

      Fee Assessment: 4 hours x $176.00 = $ 704.00
                       7 hours x $ 99.00 = $ 693.00
                                                   ----------
                                TOTAL FEES $1,397.00

  2. Assume undergraduate student registers for 10 hours on the Lancaster campus (Lower Division) and 12 hours on the Athens campus.

      Fee Assessment: 10 hours x $ 99.00 = $ 990.00
                       10 hours x $176.00 = $1,760.00
                                                   ----------
                                                    $2,750.00

             Athens campus comprehensive rate $1,831.00
                     2 extra hours x $83.00 = $ 166.00
                                                   ----------
                                TOTAL FEES $1,997.00

  3. Assume student registers for 9 hours on the Athens campus and 10 hours on the Chillicothe campus (Lower Division), and then drops the 9 hours on the Athens campus, and adds 8 hours on the Chillicothe campus (Lower Division), all after the start of classes, but within the approved 15-day change order period.

      Initial Fee Assessment: 9 hours x $176.00 = $1,584.00
                              10 hours x $ 99.00 = $ 990.00
                                                      -----------
                                  TOTAL FEES = $2,574.00

Charge lesser Athens Comprehensive rate = $1,831.00

      Re-assessment: Charge Chillicothe
               comprehensive rate (18 hours) = $1,082.00
               Remove initial assessment = ($1,831.00)
                                                      -----------
Net change is Fees Due or (Refund) = ($ 749.00)
