PURPOSE:
- To reduce all hazardous conditions to a minimum by providing a policy concerning the reporting of such conditions.
POLICY:
- It is the policy of Ohio University that the university community environment will be maintained as safe and free from hazardous conditions as possible. Each member of the university community should assume responsibility for his own safety and the safety of those around him including students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the campus. Members of the university community should report any condition which, in their opinion, is hazardous.
Students
Students should report to the Environmental Health and Safety Department any condition which, in their opinion, is hazardous. Conditions reported to the Department will immediately be evaluated and appropriate action taken.
Faculty and Administration
Members of the faculty or administration will report to their department head any departmental conditions which, in their opinion, is hazardous. The department head, in turn, will cause the condition to be corrected. Non-departmental conditions that are deemed hazardous will be reported directly to the Environmental Health and Safety Department.
Staff
Members of the staff will report to their immediate supervisor any condition which, in their opinion, is hazardous. The supervisor, in turn, will direct the report through proper channels for correction.
Environmental Health and Safety Department
The Environmental Health and Safety Department will coordinate the above action and will assist in the investigation, evaluation, and follow-up of all hazardous conditions and also offer corrective or abatement recommendations.
