Teaching in philosophy has been concentrated in the history of philosophy with particular emphasis on 19th-century philosophy and philosophy of religion. Teaching in education has been primarily in higher education administration, with emphasis on educational planning and on the role of the university in contemporary society.

Ohio University is a comprehensive, coeducational, state-assisted residential university located in Athens, Ohio, approximately 75 miles southeast of Columbus, the state capital. 18,500 students are on the main campus at Athens, and another 9,000 attend five regional campuses.
