Degrees and Programs
Post Secondary
The purpose of the Postsecondary Options Program is to provide high school juniors and seniors who are intellectually and socially capable of doing college work with an additional education option. This is a selective program that gives high school students the opportunity to take college courses in college for both high school and college credit. The students selected to participate in Option B of the program will have their school districts pay for their college coursework.
Admission and fees
Ohio University Lancaster has approximately 100 applicants for the program each year from 18 area high schools. Applicants must be in the top 25% of their high school class and complete the Ohio University placement test. A high school transcript with a letter from the high school guidance counselor confirming that the student has notified the school of his or her intent to participate in the program are required. Successful applicants must place at the 12th grade reading level on the Nelson-Denny Reading Test and at the freshmen level on both the Ohio University math and English placement test. All of these tests are given frequently on the Lancaster Campus. There is a $20 application fee which must accompany the application.
Program Requirements
All students who wish to participate in the program must attend an initial orientation session to acquaint themselves with the procedures, rules, and processes relating to the program and the University. Students meet with an academic advisor prior to each quarter to discuss course selection. Close contact is maintained with the students' high school guidance counselors to ensure proper course selection and participation in the program. Students in the program must maintain a C average (2.0) to continue in the program.
Many students who have been involved in the program find it an excellent way to start their college coursework, especially since the campus is small with small classes. Courses taken while in the program earn regular college credits and are transferable to other colleges.

The program provides students with with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for advancement in their chosen careers. Technical skills developed with Associate degree programs are integrated with professional development in areas of communication, research, culture, politics and organizational leadership.
The program is intended to provide a means by which fully employed adults holding two-year technical degrees can complete a Bachelor's degree program in the equivalent of two additional years of full-time study. Programs like the BTAS are often referred to as 2+2.
