Arts Midwest World Fest presents Los Utrera
Ohio University's Performing Arts Series is proud to be a sponsor of the Stuarts Opera Houses's presenentation of Los Utrera
The Midwest World Fest, a program of Arts Midwest, has been providing inspiring arts enrichment and instilling appreciation for other cultures since fall 2003. The Midwest World Fest features unique musical ensembles from the rich cultures of Somalia, Israel, Japan, Mexico, and the South Carolina Sea Islands. These ensembles conduct week-long residencies consisting of public concerts, school concerts, and outreach activities in selected Midwestern communities.
Described as one of the best Mexican Son Jarocho groups in today's traditional music scene, Los Utrera are a family of musicians and dancers who take their inspiration from the fiestas of Mexico. The ensemble has toured throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and South America, offering the vibrant sounds of several generations, which include an uplifting mix of Spanish, indigenous, and West African influences.
