Renewable Energy Systems – wind power, wind resource assessment, ocean wave power generation, biomass, distributed power generation.

Combustion and Fire Sciences – direct numerical simulation of laminar flame-vortex interaction; environmental analyses of formation and elimination of hazardous combustion by-products

; quantitative evaluation of solid fuels including coal and bio-charcoal sources.

Engineering Education – implementing active approaches to develop deep understanding and retention, systems understanding, and critical analytical skills in all students.

Heat Transfer – heat flux gauge applications: biological, environmental, and aeronautical; precise measurement of convective and radiative heat flux.
Fluid Dynamics – analytical and numerical formulations of vortex pairs; numerical and experimental approaches to quantifying transport through complex geometries; analytical wave dynamics.
