What is SOPA?

SOPA is an acronym that stands for "Stop Online Piracy Act".
The bill was to stop the illegal downloading of content from the internet and to stop people from accessing copyrighted data.

MANY people did not want this act to pass. There were hundreds of protesters in New York in January 2012. These protesters would hold up signs saying things like "Copyright law was created to promote the progress of science and useful arts, not to wipe away the first amendment!"
That is what SOPA was essentially going to do, it was going to take away websites power and freedoms by revoking their rights to publish their words and opinions/arts online.

SOPA compared to Soviets.
