Misc. Notes
lived in Lebanon Township, Hunterdon Co., NJ at the time of the 1850 federal census.

I did get the information from his death record and it states his father was
"Samuel Slater". His mother was not listed. He supposedly was born in
Lebanon Township. (Jean Mayberry email - 27 Jan 2002)

The Samuel Slater who died June 26, 1832 age 70-0-19 and was buried at
Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Morris County, administrators of his estate
were Henry and Peter Slater. His wife Catharine Slater renounced her
right of administration of the estate.

From Our Schools - District No.1 Mt. Lebanon (pages 123-124)
"By the year 1831 or 32 this school house become too poor to use, so school was again taught in a private house belonging to John Watters, later owned by Silas Watters.
During 1883 (*this has to be 1833) a new stone structure was built on lands of Samuel Slater and Jacob Anthony, or rather in the centre of the public highway (near where the current Grange building is located). These lands were later the property of Peter Slater and Moses Vannatta. The school house was built by volunteer labor.
. . . After forty-three years, this school house became unfit for use, and a new one was built in 1876. . ."

Hi Cindy:

This is what my NJ connection had to say about Samuel Slater. I hope it
might be helpful:

My Samuel Slater, according to his tombstone, was born in June 1785;
however, the 1850 Census for Lebanon Township gave his age as 60, which
would mean a birth date of around 1890. (She actually meant 1790. MJ)

There is also another Samuel Slater who died June 26, 1832 age 78-0-19.
I have been able to attribute some other Slaters to this Samuel but I
have never been able to prove my Samuel was his son. Another one of
those blank walls I have come across in my lines.

On May 14, 1867, Rev. Kline reorganized [MOUNT BETHEL]
as a Lutheran Church, at which time George Banghart, William R. Prall, Conrad Davis, Benjamin Johnson and Peter C. Apgar were elected trustees. August 23, 1868 Moore Castner and wife, in consideration of the sum of $500, gave a warranty deed to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Jersey (the word Church being written by mistake for Synod, the Synod having raised $300 of the amount necessary). This includes both church and cemetery.
