To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel set in the South during the early 1930s. This is definitely a must read. This novel will make you evaluate the good and evil in society as well as within yourself. Lee shows us uneasy realities of our past as a country through an innocent narrator in an effort to help us better understand the realities of our current world.

Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller is a “non-religious look at Christian spirituality.” This book holds a special place in my heart and I hope it makes it into each of yours! Before reading this book, the word religion made me think of rules and regulations for how I need to live my life. Through reading this book, I realized that Christianity isn’t about condemning others. Christianity is about being like Jesus—showing love and compassion to everyone.

The Giver by Lois Lowry was the first book I read about a dystopian society. This novel will force you to evaluate our society and cultural norms. I fell in love with this book because it taught me to not just mindlessly accept things. We must have a strong moral foundation to guide our decisions. This is a very quick read that I would suggest all to pick up!
