League of Legends

League of Legends is a free to play online game that pits multiple players, up to 10, combating each other in a tower defense game. The game itself revolves around its massive 100+ champions that players pick from. The game is divided by two teams of five players and each team has a base on the opposite ends of the map. Each base has a Nexus that if lost, loses the game for that team. Each Nexus is defended by 4 sets of Towers that the opposing team must take down in order to destroy the Nexus. Every 30 seconds, a wave of minions will spawn at each teams base and will rush to their unfortunate death along a set path leading them into the towers. Players kill these minions to gain experience for levels and skills, but also for gold in which to buy items that make their heros hopefully better than their opponents. Here is a very short but effective example of a few of my favorite champions in the game and their roles in it.

The Scarecrow Fiddlesticks, the Harbinger of Doom:

Fiddlesticks is classified as a counter-control Mage in the game. He is the walking embodiment of fear and his skills in game reflect this. Many a time have I been cursed out loud when I show up out of nowhere and when the enemy is running, simply Fear them. Fiddles Fear causes the enemy champ to run around for 3 seconds, giving you and your allies valuable time to take them down. His other skill, Darkwind, throws out a crow that bounces from minion to champion up to 5 times, each hit doing damage and silencing them for 1.5 seconds, preventing them from casting any skills of their own. Fiddlesticks ultimate is a skill that makes all enemy champions scatter like cockroaches in light. Those who say 'you have nothing to fear but fear itself' have not yet felt the crows.

The Assassin

Kassadin is another of my favorites and yet another champion that people love to complain about when I play him. And they have every right to be. This champion is a Mage Assassin. This means He has really high burst damage potential and the method to deliver it. Kassadin has a long duration silence with some decent range, but his power comes from his ultimate. Rift Walk allows Kassadin to teleport a short distance every 3-6 seconds depending on it's skill level. This allows Kassadin unrivaled mobility and surprise which allows him to gank from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Theres a saying in the LoL community: "If you look upon the Void, you can't put it behind you. If you look upon Kassadin, he is probably already there."
