I am interested in the function of anatomical structures in vertebrates, and in uncovering the evolutionary pressures that resulted in their formation. I am particularly interested in studying reptiles, as they are a group that have had many unique structures described, but have had very little work done on their function.

My current research is in modeling airflow in the nasal passages of vertebrates, with a focus on reptiles and birds. The aim is to discover how changes in nasal anatomy, affect the flow of air. By doing this it may then be possible to reconstruct the flow of air in the nasal cavity of dinosaurs, and use that data to infer metabolic capabilities (e.g. effective air conditioning, brain cooling, olfactory prowess).
