History of the InterNIC


The InterNIC was founded by Elizabeth J. Feinler (a.k.a. Jake Feinler) in 1972 and was run by the Stanford Research Institution from then until October 1st of 1991.


From October of 1991 through September 18th of 1998, InterNIC was run by Network Solutions.


Thereafter, the responsibilities of the InterNIC were assumed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
