Plan Ahead

It's always good to plan ahead, even if you are still in your first year. A lot of first year students are undecided about what they want to major in, but I recommend checking out the degree requirements for programs you are interested in. With that information, you can take classes that are generally required in the field you are most likely going to major in, so you don't waste time or money.

Learn How To Use Blackboard

This really depends if your class requires the use of Blackboard or not, but I find that most professors use it. Blackboard is website where you can see a lot of your coursework. There are many different features you can access depending on what your class site has setup. These features can range from reading important documents, turning in assignments, viewing helpful links, and checking your grades.

Check your Email

Check your email often. You will receive emails almost daily that have to do with school. Via Blackboard you can subscribe to class pages and discussion boards in order to see any recent announcements. Professors will also post updates, assignments, and links from time to time for you to view. Your email will keep you updated and prepared for content you might receive when not in the classroom.
