Attendance and Promptness

We meet during the time designated in the catalog. Attendance is required for the entire time of each scheduled class, as well as a required, meeting at mid-term.

Realize that in-class time is made up of professor contact time. This is a carefully orchestrated exposure to innovative thoughts and self-made research. These are difficult experiences to make up. You are responsible for all material covered in classes. Therefore, if an absence occurs, the material/experience covered during class has to be made up in the equivalent amount of time outside class.

Attendance will be taken in the beginning or at the end of each class. It is classified as an absence, if you are not present while attendance is taken. During the quarter, there are no unexcused absences. The maximum of two absences, with valid excuse, will be tolerated, since we only meet for a limited number of hours per week. It is critical that all are attending and participating to maximize the results achieved. Every unexcused absence and all excused absences after those tolerated, will lower your overall grade one letter grade.

Due Dates, Work Submittal and Work Habits

These dates and times will be determined for each task/assignment. Grades will be lowered for late submittal. For example, if the designated time is specified due for a presentation in the beginning of the class, the work must be presented at the beginning or it will be classified late.

All presentation formats will be discussed during the classes previous to the date due.

Complete documentation of the process leading up to the end result, from in and outside of class, is to be present in the classroom. Please keep rigorous notes regarding your observations in a binder/sketch book. These notes help you to appreciate the many breakthrough experiences. It is critical to have all work on your projects present during class time. Progress binders are essential throughout your education.

Grading Policy

The quality of the results, along with participation in class, will be a part of the final grade for the course. The assessment for participation is based on: overall initiative and enthusiasm, questions, discussions and understanding the objectives of the tasks, the rigorous research of tasks, reading periodicals, respect for Attendance Policy, respect for Due Dates, Work Submittal and Work Habits.
