Freshman Fall 2014

Learn about academic services

Your admission to Ohio University indicates that you have potential for success here, and our faculty and staff are prepared to help support you along your path toward that success. During Bobcat Student Orientation, you and your family will learn about the wealth of academic support resources available to you at OHIO. You may find it helpful to become familiar with these services before you arrive on campus:

University Registrar

The Office of the University Registrar is responsible for preserving the integrity and the accuracy of student academic records. In addition, it is responsible for providing access and distributing records in an efficient manner that complies with University policy, professional standards, and federal/state laws. The primary areas of responsibility are: academic records (enrollment/degree verification, grades, graduation, transcripts), degree audit, registration, classroom scheduling, undergraduate catalog, and veterans’ educational benefits.

Academic Advancement Center

The Academic Advancement Center (AAC) offers support services that assist Ohio University undergraduates to reach their academic goals. Tutoring services, academic skill development and academic guidance are provided through credit courses and individual and group study sessions to support and challenge students as learners.

Student Accessibility Services

It is the mission of the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to ensure equal opportunity and access for students of the Ohio University community. Central to this mission is the development of an academic environment that is accessible to all people without the need for adaptation. While working toward the goal of full inclusion, accommodations must still be provided on an individual basis.

At the college level, it is the individual student’s responsibility to initiate the registration process with SAS. Students may initiate a request to SAS at any point in their academic career; it is recommended to do so early.

To be eligible for accommodations a student must:

  • Submit current disability documentation (described below)
  • Receive notification from an SAS Advisor that you are eligible for accommodations
  • Schedule and attend an intake appointment with your assigned SAS Advisor (it is recommended to schedule in advance to meet during your Bobcat Student Orientation session)

The type of documentation required depends on the individual disability. Guidelines to documentation are available on the SAS website or inquiries may also be made in person or by phone.
