The Hostage
8:00pm, The Forum Theater, RTV Building
Tickets:Community members $10 Community students and senior citizens $7 Free for Ohio University students.
It's Dublin and the year is 1958. Leslie, a young British soldier, is taken hostage as a bargaining chip for the release of an IRA prisoner due to be executed in Belfast the following morning. Throw in a rowdy brothel of misfits, some music hall songs, a drag queen and a bagpipe-playing madman, and the result is a bawdy, poignant, life-affirming tale of love, loss, and a good dose of Irish whiskey. The mainstage shows are suitable for general audience, although probably not for children under 13.

Family Weekend 5K Walk/Run
8:00am, Ping Center front lawnRegistration starts at 8:00am, race begins at 8:30am. Registration is free, though money or non-perishable food donations are welcome.
2nd Annual Rise 'n Shine with the 'Rents Parents Weekend Breakfast
Seatings at 9:30am, 10:30am, 11:30am. Baker Center Ballroom.
Tickets $7 for students, $10 for non-students.
This event is sponsored by the Ohio University program Council (UPC) and the Dean of Students Office. Pre-sale tickets available through Tuesday, October 20 at available here.
Come enjoy a great breakfast buffet and entertainment. The menu features scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and sausage links, hash browns and fresh fruit. Live music and raffles will take place each hour. OU administrators will also be at the breakfast to meet with families.

Zienzele Handmade Basket Sale

The Zienzele Foundation is an organization benefitting AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe. One of the projects Zienzele is invovled in is the promotion of handmade baskets. Women in rural villages create beautiful handcrafted baskets that will be for sale. 100% of profits return to Zimbabwe, promoting self-reliance and empowerment within these rural communities. Stop by and visit us between 11 am-3 pm on the 4th floor of Baker Center Saturday the 24th! Not only are you purchasing beautiful handiwork, you're also supporting a great cause!
Old Man's Cave Day Hike Trip

Join Outdoor Pursuits on a 7 mile day hike through the Old Mans Cave region of Hocking Hills State Park. This area is scattered with a variety of geologic features, including waterfalls, sandstone cliffs and rock formations. A great day to spend with your friends!!! Meet at the Rental Center at 11:00am ready to go! All skill levels welcome.
Artists in Action

This event, presented by the Nelsonville Historic Arts District, allows guests to join artists working in their studios. Here, you can learn, ask questions, and experience the process. Come experience hand paper-making, photography, pottery on the wheel, sculpture, glass cutting, quilting, Plen air painting, yarn spinning, Stuart's Opera House tours, and more.
Attire for Hire
Noon - 4:00pm, Baker Center 1st Floor, Professional Clothing Drive
The College of Health and Human Services HCRM 299 class will be holding a professional wear clothing drive. The benefits will proceed the Athens County Child and Family Services organization to help the less fortunate dress for success while attending job interviews. We ask that you donate used professional attire such as suits, skirts, jackets, pants, shirts and shoes to give those of Athens County the confidence to land their job.

Ben Bailey of Cash Cab

An acclaimed stand-up comedian, Ben Bailey is the most desired cabbie in New York. He is the host of the highly successful shows "Cash Cab" and "Cash Cab: After Dark" on the Discovery Channel. He has been doing stand-up for more than 10 years and he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Game Show Host."

A collaborative project between The Kennedy Museum of Art and the School of Art, displaying collections of objects from selected Ohio University departmental collections and collections of miniatures and small objects from the Athens community.

Mark Dion: Collected Editions: 1992-2009
Trisolini Gallery, Free and open to the public
Unique display of limited editions of prints and multiples created by Mark Dion between the years 1992 - 2009. This exhibit runs through November 14, 2009.

DeWitt Godfrey
Ohio University Art Gallery, 536 Seigfred Hall
Initially trained as an architect and best known for his architectural scale constructions in weathered steel, Godfrey explores the space between seriality and singularity, and between chance and artistic necessity. His work locates the space between armored strength and fragile contingency.

First American West, Interact with Local History, and Material Memories

Three separate exhibits at the Athens County Historical Society and Museum.

Stories of Athens: A Walking Tour
Begins at Athens County Courthouse, 1 South Court Street
While visiting Athens, come hear tales of the local history, events and people who populated this small, isolated, rural frontier town.
Cost is $5 per person.
Tours last for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Start times: Friday at 4pm, Saturday at 1pm & 4pm, Sunday at 1pm
ART/Oberfest
132 West State Street, Athens
A community celebration of the visual, performing and culinary arts.
Admission is free, though donations are welcome.
