
Fall Parents Weekend
September 20—September 22, 2013
The first family weekend of the school year is in honor of parents. All moms, dads, and family members are invited to join us for a few days to relax amidst the beauty of the Ohio University campus.
***The listing below is from our 2012 Parents Weekend. We will begin updating our event list for 2013 Parents Weekend in early August. Please use the schedule below as an indication of the types of events we typically host for this special weekend.
The schedule of events for Parents Weekend will continue to updated as information from student organizations and University departments is provided.

OHIO Hockey v. The John Carroll Blue Streaks
Friday, September 21 at 7:30pm, Bird Arena
See the OHIO Bobcats hit the ice against the John Carroll Blue Streaks on Friday, September 21. Puck drops at 7:30pm.
Students tickets are $5 and all other tickets are $7. All tickets are general admission. Doors open at 6:45pm. Children under 5 are free, all others attending must have a ticket to enter the facility.

Contemplative Cameras and Women Artists - Part ll Openting Reception
Friday, September 21 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Kennedy Museum of Art
Enjoy the unveiling of of Permanent Collections photography by artists Kenji Kawano, A.J Meek, and Frederick Schreiber. Women Artists II Exhibition will showcase artwork from the Kennedy Museum of Art collection as well, made by women after 1970s.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail Screening
Friday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m., Athena Cinema
Come join us at the Athena Cinema on Court Street as we host special Parents Weekend screenings of the classic MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL! King Arthur and his knights embark on a low-budget search for the Grail, encountering many very silly obstacles. Don't miss this fun-filled event, complete with free coconut bras! All ages fun for students, parents and siblings!
Ticket prices are $5.00 for a matinee (any show before 6:00pm) and $6.50 per ticket after 6pm. Additional screenings on Saturday and Sunday.
Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.
Friday, September 21 at 7:30pm, Templeton-Blackburn Memorial Auditorium
"AMERICA'S GOT TALENT" winner Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. is set to open the 2012–13 Performing Arts Series season. The Logan, West Virginia native was awarded the show's top prize after a string of impressive performances of Rat Pack favorites like Dean Martin's "Ain't That a Kick in the Head?" and Frank Sinatra's "My Way." A 37-year-old father of four who was washing cars to support his family, Landau captured the hearts of the American public with his down-to-earth nature and incredible voice – becoming the winner of the sixth season of the NBC reality show "America's Got Talent." A baritone vocalist in the traditional pop style, Murphy released his debut album, That's Life, on Sony Records in November of 2011.

Cheer on the OHIO Bobcats as they take on the Norfolk State Spartans.
Tickets purchased in advance for parents and families will be located in the students sections. These sections include 117-120 & sections 10-16. A map of Peden Stadium is located here. All student sections are general admission. There will be entrance for parents and families at Gate 4 so that you may enter the stadium with your student.
Students can pick up their single free ticket at the Convocation Center Ticket Office on Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5pm or on game day at Gate 4 beginning 90 minutes prior to kick-off. Game day tickets are not guaranteed and are based on availability.
Tickets purchased on game day will have assigned seating locations in the stadium. If you would like to purchase tickets on game day, you can choose to sit in the student sections, pending availability. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-575-CATS.

Play golf with your son or daughter! Join us for a parent/student golf outing at the Ohio University golf course. Tee off is at 9:00am for a 9 hole scramble.
Parents and students are invited to pair together for an enjoyable time on the greens and friendly competition. Price is $35 per individual and includes green fees, golf cart, and catered lunch from Miller's Chicken. Raffles and competitive hole prizes will be awarded. Scramble is limited to 30 pairs.

Midnight Meltdown: Ice Skating at Bird Arena
Saturday, September 22 from 10:30 p.m - 12:30 a.m., Bird Ice Arena
Bring your parents to ice skate at Bird Arena after the Ohio Men's Ice Hockey Game from 10:3 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. The rink will have a music and a DJ, party lights, and a concession stand.
Admission is $3.50 and Skate Rental is $3.00.
Parents Weekend 5K Run & Walk
September 22 at 8:00 a.m., Charles J. Ping Center
Enjoy the beautiful Ohio University river front scenery with your Parents for this 5K race that winds through the bike path and around campus. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County.
$15 for single admission, $25 for two
Register at the Fitness Desk, 2nd floor Ping Center. Register up until race time.

Causes, Consequences, and Cautionary Tales: Leading Findings on Consumer Bankruptcy
Saturday, September 22 at 12:30 p.m., The Front Room Coffee House
We are excited to have Dr. Debb Thorne speak on debt management in financially distressed families. Dr. Thorne is associate professor of sociology, and for the past decade, economic inequality, specifically consumer bankruptcy, has been at the core of her research agenda. She has authored articles and book chapters on a range of issues associated with debt and consumer bankruptcy such as social mobility, stigma, gender, effects of severe debt on couples’ relationships, medical debt, reasons for elder debtors’ bankruptcy, financial education, and financial health following bankruptcy. She teaches introductory courses in sociology, which range from 100-400 students, social inequality, and research methods. Because of her enthusiasm for teaching, Dr. Thorne has been named University Professor and Eric Wagner Endowed Teaching Professor.
Parents Pancake Breakfast

The year's Ohio University Parent's breakfast will be held in The Baker Center Ballroom on Saturday September 22, 2012. Seating will be held at 9:00am and 10:30am, and will include a pancake bar with a variety of breakfast foods. Not only will you have the opportunity to eat breakfast with your Bobcat student and Family, but you will get to enjoy music, live entertainment, raffle prizes and much more. We look forward to seeing you all at this years Parents Pancake Breakfast!
This event is co-sponsored by the Ohio University Program Council and the Office of the Dean of Students. All tickets are $10.
