Fall Parents Weekend

September 26—September 28, 2014 

The first family weekend of the school year is in honor of parents. All moms, dads, and family members are invited to join us for a few days to relax amidst the beauty of the Ohio University campus.

The Athens County Convention and Visitors Bureau maintains a list of local availabilities through their "Where To Stay" website located here. The Hocking Hills also offers a lodging directory, too.  Their "Where To Stay" website is located here.

OHIO Hockey v. The Pittsburgh Panthers

Friday, September 26 at 7:30pm, Bird Arena 

See the OHIO Bobcats hit the ice against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday, September 26.  Puck drops at 7:30pm.

Students tickets are $6 and all other tickets are $8.  All tickets are general admission.  Doors open at 6:45pm.  Children under 5 are free, all others attending must have a ticket to enter the facility.

Parents Weekend Dinner Theater

Friday, September 26 at 7:30pm, Baker University Center Ballroom 

Enjoy dinner and a show. Back by popular demand, this dinner theater is a great way to kick off your parents weekend!

ALL TICKETS: $15 includes dinner and show.

*Doors open at 6:30pm, please arrive before 7pm in order to check in at the door.

 



Parent's Weekend Stargazing and Campfire

Friday, September 26, 7:30 PM, The Ridges 

Join Outdoor Pursuits­ for an evening of stargazing and campfire fun. We will spend the evening roasting marshmallows, spotting constellations, gazing through a telescope, and listening to tales of the night sky and Ridges lore. Fee includes transportation and campfire snacks. Tickets are $10 per person.

 



Parent's Weekend Day Hike

Saturday, September 27, 10 AM, Hocking Hills State Park 

Join Outdoor Pursuits on a day hike through the Old Mans Cave region of Hocking Hills State Park.­ This area is scattered with a variety of geologic features including waterfalls, sandstone cliffs, and rock formations.­ A great way to spend the day with your siblings and friends! $20 per person fee includes transportation and guide staff. Trip departs at­ 10 AM ­and returns at ­3 PM.



Parent’s Breakfast—Bringing Home to yOU

Saturday, September 27 at 11:00am, Baker University Center Ballroom 

Come enjoy a great breakfast buffet and entertainment at the Parents Weekend Breakfast. The breakfast menu features scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, hash browns, assorted pastries and fresh fruit. Live music and raffles will take place during each seating. OU administrators will also be present throughout to meet and greet our families. 

All tickets are $15 per person.

This event is sponsored by the Ohio University Program Council.



Parent's Weekend Zipline Adventure

Saturday, September 27, Varies, The Ridges Challenge Course 

Calling all Families and Students - head for the Ridges to catch some air on the Outdoor Pursuits zip line! We'll provide the equipment and instruction, you provide the excitement as you climb to the take-off platform and fly down a 300 foot zip line. Destined to be the talk of Parent's weekend, so sign up early. $25 per person fee includes all equipment, instruction, and optional shuttle to the zip line facility. Zipline from 10-12 & ­1-5 PM.­

Join Ohio University student staff in thirty-minute tours that explore the artwork on exhibit.

OHIO Football v. Eastern Illinois

Saturday, September 27 at 2 PM, Peden Stadium 

Cheer on the OHIO Bobcats as they take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

Students do not need to purchase tickets.  Students will present their ID at Gate 4 on Gameday and their ID will be swiped for entrance into the event.

9 Hole Golf Scramble

The Ohio University Golf Course will be hosting a scramble format 9 hole golf outing.  Sign up in groups of 2 or 4.  Food and prizes will be provided so come out and have some fun.

Associate Professor, School of Art and Design, Jennie Klein presents Women III. Women III focuses on work made in conjunction with third wave feminism. It’s interrogated with media images of those with marginalized identities in order to demonstrate how those identities were ideological constructions rather then biologically and racially based. The exhibition features artists from Kennedy Museum of Art collection and two installations by Ohio University alumni, Kim Abeles, and artist group, The Bridge Club.

Clarence H. White: Pictorial Images of Women, curated by Jody Lamb, Ph.D.

Associate Dean of college of Fine Arts, Jody Lamb presents contemplative photographs by Clarence Hudson White depicting middle class American women and their children in the early 20th century. Combined with a selection of works by his son Clarence H. White, Jr., this exhibition celebrates two highly talented photographers and educators.

From the museum’s permanent collection, The Trusims Series showcases Jenny Holzer’s suite of eight posters.  Inspired by Western and Eastern texts of culture, literature and philosophy, these works speak to universal truths on themes such as love, violence and power.
