Navajo Saddle Blankets from the Edwin L. and Ruth E. Kennedy Southwest Native American Collection

Friday: 10am-5pm, Sat-Sun: 1pm-5pm, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall
August 23 - February 23, 2014

Navajo weaving has a long and rich history that has produced objects ranging from wearing blankets to floor rugs to wall hangings. Saddle blankets are unique in this history in that they have been continuously produced as utilitarian objects. The Navajo saddle blankets in the Museum’s collection include rare examples of Germantown Sunday Saddle Blankets from the late 1800s and early 1900s, woven with yarns from the woolen mills of Germantown, Pennsylvania, which circulated in the Southwest during the latter part of the 19th century.

A Space in Time: Works by Donald Roberts

Friday: 10am-5pm, Sat-Sun: 1pm-5pm, Kennedy Museum of Art, Lin Hall

September 20 - January 5, 2014

This exhibition features two bodies of work by artist and Ohio University emeritus professor of art, Donald Roberts. One section showcases selected paintings, drawings and sculpture representing an earlier period when the artist explored perspective and hardedge geometric forms. A larger selection highlights more recent paintings and drawings. Organic form, color and ambiguous space are “pushed and pulled” to experimental and expressive limits. Roberts’ works reveals his strong relationship with nature and admiration for artists including, but not limited to, Wassily Kandinsky (Russian, 1866– 1944), Arshile Gorky (American, 1904–1948) and Michael Singer (American, 1942 – Present).

Curator Walk and Talk with Director Edward E. Pauley: September 20, 5 - 6 p.m.

Exhibition Reception: September 20, 6 - 8 p.m.
