Unless you have a wide screen, the most efficient way to use this Web page is probably to print it out for reference while you are following these steps, rather than trying to flip back and forth between windows.

Installing FileZilla

  1. Go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=21558&package_id=15149.

  2. Look in the green-shaded "Newest Files" area to see if 3.2.6.1 is the latest version. If it is not, then scroll down through the list in the "FileZilla Client" category and click on 3.2.6.1. That version has been confirmed to work with our server; if you are feeling adventurous, try the latest version!

  3. From the expanded list, or from the green-shaded section, choose an installer file format (or "package"); usually the "...setup.exe" choice will be appropriate.

  4. Click on the linked filename.

  5. If necessary, select a mirror server to download from, and click on the "download" link in the right column. Depending on your browser, you may have to right-click and "save target as..." on the next screen in order for the download to complete. Be aware that the installer file size is several Megabytes, so if you have a dialup connection, you may want to download it somewhere else and use a ZIP disk, a USB drive, or a CD to transfer the file.

  6. When the installer file has been downloaded, close all browser windows.

In order to get it to download, you may have to add whatever server you are downloading from to your Trusted Sites list:

    • Use the Start button on the taskbar to go to the Windows Control Panel

    • Open Security Center

    • Click the link to manage security settings for Internet Options

    • Choose the Security tab.

    • Click Trusted Sites in the top center.

    • Click on the Sites button on the right to open the Trusted Sites window.

    • If necessary, uncheck the box next to "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone".

    • Type the following URL's (or the corresponding URLs for the server you are using) in the field below "Add this Web site to the zone:" -- and click Add after each one is entered:

  7. Open "My Computer"; navigate to the installer file; and double-click on the installer file.

  8. Make the appropriate choices as the installer process proceeds. For most of the choices the defaults will be acceptable.

Configuring FileZilla

Current versions of FileZilla have been working "out-of-the-box" with no need for configuration changes. If you have an earlier version that was configured to work with www.ohiou.edu, you should not need to make any configuration changes to work with ww2 and wws2. If you encounter any problems, please report them promptly, using the e-mail link, below.
