S*T*A*R*S sponsors a Tunnel of Oppression
On May 12-13, 2004 Students Teaching About Racism in Society (S*T*A*R*S) will be sponsoring a Tunnel of Oppression.
This is a interactive event that seeks to represent oppression in its various forms and intersections. Essentially, participants will go on a tour of visual scenarios depicting groups that have been oppressed throughout history.
The event will be followed by a breakdown session during which trained members of S*T*A*R*S will help to debrief participants. We hope to inspire dialogue on campus around issues of social justice, and to invigorate a commitment to fighting against injustice in all corners.
The tunnel has been done all over the nation, and it is an eye-opening experience to the injustice and ineuqality that has been represented in our history. The tunnel will be held on May 12-13 from 1-7 pm in the Baker Center 1954 room.
