Local artist headlines Southeast Ohio magazine launch
Southeastern Ohio talent, including Brick City Records artist Brent Mulgrew, is teaming up with the staff of Southeast Ohio magazine to help launch the spring issue at the Blue Gator bar in Athens on April 6 at 9 p.m.
Mulgrew's performance will be the first live recording since he signed with the student-run record label Brick City Records this spring. In addition, Disturbing the Peace, a rock and roll band popular in Muskingum and Morgan counties, and Section 8, the a cappella group from the Singing Men of Ohio, also will take the stage Tuesday night.
"The party will give us a chance not only to celebrate our staff's work this quarter," says Brittany Yingling, editor-in-chief of the spring issue, "but it also encourages more people to read the magazine and see what we're all about."
A $3 cover for patrons over 21 and a $4 cover for patrons under 21 will be charged at the door. The spring issue features stories about singles who met through online dating, a local man's search to uncover his racially diverse heritage and the sole surviving coal miner in Neffs, Ohio. Copies will be on sale at the Blue Gator on April 6 and at the Southeast Ohio office at Scripps Hall in Athens.
Since its inception in 1970, Southeast Ohio has been produced by students from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism under the direction of a faculty advisor. Southeast Ohio, which serves 20 counties in southeastern Ohio, is the only student-produced, regional magazine in the country.
