LOPEZ-PERMOUTH, mathematics, and HAI QUANG DINH, assistant professor of mathematics at Kent State University - Trumbull, co-wrote "On the Equivalence of Codes over Finite Rings" in Applicable Algebra in Engineering, Communication and Computing, Vol. 15, in June. They also co-wrote "Cyclic and Negacyclic Codes over Finite Chain Rings" in IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Vol. 50, in August. ROBERT L. WILLIAMS II, mechanical engineering, wrote the Matlab problem assignments and solutions for each chapter in the 3rd edition of the robotics textbook called "Introduction to Robotics: Mechanics and Control" by John J. Craig. RAYMOND ATTA-FYNN, graduate student of physics and astronomy, PARTHAPRATIM BISWAS, postdoctoral research associate and DAVID DRABOLD co-wrote "Electron-phonon Coupling is Large for Localized States" in the Physical Review B journal in June.
Presentations XIAOSHI (JOY) BI, Center for Innovations in Technology for Learning, was invited by China Education and Research Network as a guest speaker at the Conference of Collegiate IT Professionals in Northeast China on June 30. TERRY CONRY, chair of the Academy of Management's Organization and Management Theory Teaching Committee, organized and moderated a professional development workshop called "Teaching Organization and Management Theory" at the Academy of Management's national conference in New Orleans in August. AILEEN HALL, sociology and anthropology, was invited to attend a Research Forum by PETsMART Charities as part of a team of scientists charged with the task of identifying gaps in the knowledge needed to improve the health and temperament of companion animals and to strengthen the animal/human bond. PETsMART Charities will be funding the series of requests for proposals for research on these issues. The forum was held June 17 - 19 in Phoenix, Ariz. EKOKOBE FONKEM, College of Osteopathic Medicine, wrote an article for the American Journal of Respiratory Cell Molecular Biology, Vol. 30. He spearheaded the establishment of the Research Club in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and is currently the president of the organization. MATT WHITE, biological sciences, presented papers entitled "Intraspecific Phylogeography of the Wabash Pigtoe," and "Haplotype Diversity in Hatchery and Museum Colorado Pikeminnow" at a meeting of the Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society in Shepherdstown, W. Va., in June. He also presented papers entitled "Intraspecific Phylogeography in the Least Brook Lamprey," and "Haplotype Variation in Hatchery and Museum Colorado Pikeminnow" at a meeting of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in Norman, Okla., in May. RITA NG, communication studies, presented a paper entitled "The Confucian Model of Self-cultivation: Lessons for the West" at the 54th Annual International Communication Association Conference in New Orleans, La., in May. PAUL J. LONGO, ILGARD and Evaluation Specialist, presented "Linking Performance Measurement and Strategic Planning through Locic Models" at a meeting of the Ohio Program Evaluators' Group at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in June. The presentation examined how performance measurement and strategic planning are currently being linked through the use of an enhanced logic-modeling tool called the Performance Blueprint, an accompanying database application and an ongoing quarterly-meeting-based performance management system. SERGIO LOPEZ-PERMOUTH, mathematics, presented "On the Equivalence of Codes over Finite Rings and Modules" at the International Algebra Conference in Moscow, Russia, May 26 - June 2, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Moscow State University and the 75th anniversary of its department of algebra. He also was a senior mentor at the 2004 IMA summer program for graduate students in coding and cryptology at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., in June. Sixty-two graduate students from the United States, Asia and Europe attended the summer program and carried on research projects under the supervision of senior mentors. S.K. JAIN, mathematics, presented "Non M-singular CS Modules" at the International Algebra Conference in Moscow, Russia, May 26 - June 2, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Moscow State University and the 75th anniversary of its department of algebra. LAKHDAR HAMMOUDI, mathematics, presented "The Burnside-Kurosh problems after Golod-Shafarevitch" at the International Algebra Conference in Moscow, Russia, May 26 - June 2, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Moscow State University and the 75th anniversary of its department of algebra. DAVID DRABOLD, physics and astronomy, presented "Defects in Amorphous Semiconductors" at the Gordon Research Conference in New London, N.H., in July. MICHELE MORRONE, health sciences, presented "Environmental Advocates Perspectives on Brownfields Redevelopment" to the Ohio Society of Risk Analysis in Cincinnati, Ohio, in July. She also presented "Risk Communication in a Small Town with a Big Environmental Problem" to the Association of Schools of Public Health in Minneapolis, Minn., in July.
