Awards and Recognitions

 

CAROL FRAUNFELTER, Ohio University-Zanesville’s records management assistant, has been named Employee of the Month for September 2007. The award recognizes employees who show outstanding achievement and innovation while contributing to the mission of the University. Fraunfelter serves on the Campus Safety Committee and assists with the annual recognition of graduates for the Zanesville campus. In addition, she continually upgrades her skills through professional development opportunities. Fraunfelter has been with Ohio University-Zanesville for 14 years. 

 

CHARLES HART, health sciences, received an Honorary Life Member award from the National Campus Safety Council and the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association, presented in Chicago. Hart is the former Ohio University Director of Environmental Health Sciences and now part time adjunct faculty in Health Sciences.

 

SHANE TILTON, electronic media, Ohio University-Zanesville, was recently elected as Secretary/Webmaster for the interest divisions Two-Year/Small College and Communication Technology during the 2007 National Conference of the Broadcast Education Association.

 

JEFF FANTINE, teacher education, has been elected as the regional representative to the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) Board.  He will represent Region 4 which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, serving as a communication link between the members and associations in those states.

 

GARY S. NEIMAN, health and human services, has received both the Outstanding Board Member award and the Fellows Program award from The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) for his leadership within the organization. The annual Outstanding Board Member Award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to ASAHP by their example and through inspiring others. The Fellows Program Award goes to members who have made significant contributions to allied health as administrators, educators, clinicians or researchers. In March, Neiman coordinated a nationwide symposium aimed at promoting faculty research in health-related fields. Neiman is the dean of the College of Health and Human Services since 1999, and administers Ohio University’s Division of Campus Recreation, WellWorks fitness and nutrition center, the Child Development Center child-care laboratory, the interdisciplinary clinic Ohio University Therapy Associates, and Kids on Campus afterschool and summer program.

SERGIO LOPEZ-PERMOUTH and DINH VAN HUYNH, mathematics, presented their research at the June 2007 International Conference on Rings and Things in honor of Carl Faith and Barbara Osofsky.

 

ROBERT L. WILLIAMS II, PAUL BOSSCHER and SEBASTIAN BRYSON, mechanical engineering, presented “Cable-Suspended Robotic Contour Crafting System” at the 2006 ASME International Design Technical Conferences, and the 30th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference in Philadelphia.

 

ROBERT L. WILLIAMS II, VENKAT CHADARAM and FEDERICA GIACOMETTI, mechanical engineering, presented “Three-Cable Haptic Interface” at the 2006 ASME International Design Technical Conferences, and the 30th Mechanisms and Robotics Conference in Philadelphia.

 

Publications

 

 

JAMES W. FONSECA, geography, and dean, Ohio University-Zanesville, published a chapter in “Beyond the Metropolis: Urban Geography as if Small Cities Mattered,” published by University Press of America and edited by Benjamin Ofori-Amoah. In the chapter, “Micropolitan Ohio: A Study of the Internal Structure of Small Cities,” Fonseca discusses the implications of a new category defined by the US Census Bureau in the 2000 census. Fonseca, who began his tenure as Zanesville Campus Dean in 1998 remains active in research and scholarship in the field of Geography.

DR. MOHANNAD AL-SAGHGIR, biological sciences, Ohio University-Zanesville, has published “Genetic Diversity in Hordeum spontaneum C. Koch of Northern Jordan (Ajloun Area) as Revealed by RAPD and AFLP Markers,” in the 2007 International Journal of Botany, contributing to research and scientific methodologies in the field of agricultural molecular science. As a result of his research and scholarship for this publication, Al-Saghir has been sought out as advisor to four international Ph.D. students from Egypt, Sri Lanka, and China.
