ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- Ohio University Eastern Campus is establishing a choral ensemble beginning in January consisting of students, faculty, alumni and community members.
The choral union is a non-auditioned ensemble that will begin rehearsals from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 5 in room 304 of Shannon Hall on the Eastern campus. Mary Jo Magyar of St. Clairsville will provide musical direction.
"The Belmont County area has a wealth of musical talent that does not have a central location for rehearsals and performances," Magyar said. "We hope to unite as many people who share an interest in music as possible."
The choral union at OUE will provide an opportunity for vocalists to sing secular and sacred music that is not always feasible for church choirs and school ensembles. Some of the songs included in the winter quarter are "Steam Heat," "Jekyll and Hyde Medley" and "Amazing Grace."
The chorus will provide an opportunity for singers to improve their vocal skills, sing various styles of music and share in the enjoyment of music.
William Willan, OUE interim dean, said, "The chorus will provide an enjoyable cultural connection between members of the university and the community. We look forward to the first performance."
