University receives $29M for improvements On Tuesday, Governor Ted Strickland signed the two-year $1.3 billion capital appropriations budget allocating $29.5 million to Ohio University's main and regional campuses. House Bill 562 allots $495 million -- the largest portion of the capital budget -- to Ohio's public universities and community colleges for fiscal years 2009 and 2010.
| University gift grows by more than $10 million In January, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis announced an estimated $80 million gift from the estate of the late Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ of Dayton, Ohio. The value of the estate is now known to be in excess of $91.8 million -- $79.1 million in cash and securities in addition to $12.7 million in property. The proceeds will support engineering education and research at Ohio University.

Nance named 48th Distinguished Professor President Roderick J. McDavis has announced that Professor of Geological Sciences R. Damian Nance is Ohio University's Distinguished Professor for 2008. The Distinguished Professor Award is the university's highest faculty honor and carries a lifetime designation that recognizes scholarly accomplishment, professional reputation and contributions to the university.

College of Education names associate dean Associate Professor of English Linda J. Rice is the new associate dean for outreach and undergraduate studies in Ohio University's College of Education. She will assume her new responsibilities July 1, joining the college's Academic Leadership Council, Administrative Team and Society of Alumni and Friends.

Campuses host graduation events While all individuals earning Ohio University degrees during the 2007-08 academic year are eligible to take part in commencement ceremonies on the Athens campus, students who completed their degree work at the regional campuses across Southeastern Ohio also will be recognized during ceremonies on their respective sites.

Two win national security scholarships Ohio University students Jason Akbar and Kayleigh Forhan have been named David L. Boren National Security Education Program (NSEP) Scholars. The pair was among 150 awardees selected from 697 applicants.
