Memorial service scheduled for Robert Mahn
ATHENS, Ohio -- A memorial service for long-time Ohio University administrator Robert Mahn of Athens will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Galbreath Chapel, followed by a reception with the family in the lower level of Galbreath and internment at Athens Memory Gardens at 3 p.m. He died Sunday.
During his 51-year career, Mahn filled a variety of posts at Ohio University while serving under seven presidents. As assistant to the president and secretary to the Board of Trustees, he was responsible for all official records of the board. In 1967, he accepted the position as university archivist and records officer and founded the archives as the university’s historical repository. Even after a full-time archivist was hired in 1972, he continued to be actively involved with the University Archives.
Mahn received an honorary alumnus award from the university and earned the title Secretary Emeritus of the Board of Trustees.
In October 2002, he and his wife, Jean, gave a $1 million gift to the university to establish the Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections.
