Political science professor J. Franklin Henderson dies

Frank HendersonJames Franklin "Frank" Henderson, Jr., associate professor of political science at Ohio University, died Dec. 24, 2003.

Henderson, who joined the faculty in 1972, received the University Professor Award five times and held the title of University Professor in Perpetuity. He also received the Jeanette G. Grasselli Teaching Award.

Henderson taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. His areas of specialization were political and legal theory and civil liberties.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Park College in Parkville, Mo., and his master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.

"Frank was highly respected by his colleagues and the students in his classes. Not only was he an outstanding professor, but he had an outgoing personality that uplifted all those with whom he came in contact," said Ronald Hunt, chair of the Department of Political Science.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 3 p.m. at First United Presbyterian Church on the corner of Court and Washington Streets.
